Dinner Redefined...

I hit a new low tonight - even for me...

So Joel has been studying for boards recently which means I've been stuck trying to please a bunch of kiddlins at dinnertime. So I switched things up a bit tonight. I had to make a quick stop at Rite Aid today and they had some fun cereal on sale. I took one look at those little boxes of sugary delight and had my dinner all planned. I bought up a couple of boxes of Lucky Charms and Cookie Crisp (something I only do for special occasions like Christmas or nights like tonight) and was on my way.

I announced my plan to Camryn during our car ride home. She was so excited and promptly declared it a party night where instead of cake and ice cream, we would be eating Lucky Charms and Cookie Crisp. She kept announcing this fact throughout the day - to all of the neighborhood kids and listening parents. I found it quite hilarious that when it was finally time to start our party, I heard Camryn tell her friend that we were having "garbage" for dinner. Hmmmm, I wonder what parent renamed my brilliant dinner THAT under their breath??

Anywho, I decided to add some protein to the mix by cooking up some sausage. It made me feel better as a mother. I should have made Camryn announce THAT to the neighborhood parents. Ha!

Amazingly, the kids came a running when it was dinnertime. They usually do come-a-runnin' on breakfast night (something we normally do once a week anyway), but cereal night made them practically sprint. JD happily consumed 4 adult-sized bowls of Cookie Crisp (his favorite). Camryn came up for breath every few seconds to give her approval on our party's success. Christian didn't say much except, "More cookies please."

I think I've created three monsters out of this. Now when I ask for menu ideas for our weekly breakfast night, I'll give you one guess what they're all going to vote for...

CEREAL PARTY NIGHT!

Sounds great! Everyone needs to let their hair down and have 'garbage' for dinner (not always bim bam bop), it's liberating. It's not like it's going to ruin their growing minds or anything... Keep it up, you'll enjoy watching and listening to what your kids' opinions are.
